Cosmos Hub (ATOM)
Cosmos Hub, the flagship blockchain of the Cosmos ecosystem, operates as a decentralized, modular smart contract platform designed to enable interoperability between independent blockchains through its Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol. Launched in 2019, Cosmos Hub is built on the Cosmos SDK and secured by the Tendermint consensus algorithm, positioning itself as a Layer 0 infrastructure for the next generation of decentralized applications (dApps). Unlike monolithic blockchains like Ethereum, Cosmos Hub allows developers to deploy sovereign chains—customized blockchains with their own tokens, governance, and security—while maintaining seamless communication via IBC. This architecture makes Cosmos Hub particularly appealing to developers seeking scalability, sovereignty, and cross-chain functionality, addressing key limitations of earlier blockchain iterations. Its native token, ATOM, serves as the backbone for governance, staking, and transaction validation, ensuring alignment between economic incentives and network security. With a focus on modularity and interoperability, Cosmos Hub has become a cornerstone for projects like Osmosis, Kava, and Terra, fostering a…
