Livepeer is a decentralized video infrastructure protocol built on Ethereum, designed to replace centralized streaming platforms by enabling peer-to-peer video processing through a decentralized network of nodes. Unlike traditional video platforms that rely on proprietary infrastructure, Livepeer leverages blockchain technology to allow anyone to contribute computational resources—such as transcoding and encoding—for video streaming services. This model democratizes video processing, reducing costs for developers and content creators while eliminating single points of failure. The protocol’s utility lies in its ability to provide scalable, censorship-resistant video infrastructure, making it particularly relevant for applications in decentralized media, live broadcasting, and Web3-native content platforms. With its ERC-20 token, LPT, serving as both a governance and staking mechanism, Livepeer aligns economic incentives with network security and participation, positioning itself as a critical piece of the decentralized internet’s infrastructure layer. Livepeer’s architecture is built around a two-layer system: the orchestrator and the transcoders. The orchestrator, a smart…
