Avalanche (AVAX) is a high-performance, scalable, and decentralized blockchain platform designed to address fundamental limitations of previous blockchain networks, such as slow transaction speeds, high fees, and limited interoperability. Launched in September 2020 by Ava Labs, Avalanche aims to provide a robust infrastructure for decentralized applications (dApps) and custom blockchain networks, often referred to as subnets. The project resolves the blockchain trilemma—balancing decentralization, security, and scalability—by employing a novel consensus mechanism called Avalanche Consensus, which combines the benefits of classical consensus protocols with Nakamoto consensus.
